Egyptians, the lost sequel to the critically acclaimed The Suppliant Women, is premiering at Gulbenkian 22 - 25 Feb. We can't wait to bring next part of the Danaids series, written originally by Aeschylus in 450 BC and brought back to the stage by The Foreign Office. The show follows the aftermath of the battle between the sons of Aegyptos and the people of Argos. The victorious men demand to marry their refugee cousins. But with strange omens and ominous portents foreshadowing the wedding night, who will finally prevail?

We had a fantastic time at Kent Giving Week 2023 looking to raise £25,000 for 10,000 meals for students facing hardship. Here are some highlights of the week, thank you to all that were involved.

Here's a snapshot of some recent work highlighting adventure, music, performance, animation, automotive and corporate projects.

The Sacconi Quartet invited local artist Kate Beaugié to collaborate with them during their October 2021 residency in Folkestone. Beaugié's response was to transpose the traditional classical setting for one more attuned to nature and the elements - Sunny Sands beach. The Sacconi embraced the challenge, proposing Beethoven's Opus 131 for the performance, an avant-garde piece that the composer himself declared to be 'music for a later time'. Attended by several hundred music-lovers, art-watchers and dog-walkers, Beethoven On The Beach was performed on Sunday 24th October 2021. It was captured using technology new and old; from 16mm cine and medium format photography through to Dolby Atmos audio. Beaugié herself took part in the performance, recording the movement of light and time passing through the mise en scène. Fast forward to May 2022 and the gala opening of the Sacconi Festival at the Grand in Folkestone. The cycle was completed with 'Beethoven On The Beach: Revisited' - a multi-media manifestation of the film, photography, poetry and music captured at the Sunny Sands performance. Confidance Pop Up Performance At Rana Begum’s No.1054 Arpeggio Director/Creative Producer: Grace Wranosky & Jo Frater Dancers: Caitlin Butler, Thomas Eastwell, Ruby Gadsby, Brooke Hilton, Ryan Johnston, Matt Maxwell Recorded: 24 Sept Inspired by Rana Begum's Triennial artwork, No.1054 Arpeggio, ConfiCo presents “Take a Dip” - a vibrant and joyful performance celebrating creativity and Folkestone’s colourful sea front. Based at Quarterhouse (Creative Folkestone) ConfiCo is Confidance’s inclusive professional dance company, working collaboratively to create powerful pieces of contemporary dance for festivals, theatres, and schools. As an antidote to lockdown, ConfiCo have been creating a series of outdoor pop-up performances connecting local public art. Most recently ‘Private View’ inspired by Folkestone’s own Banksy - “Art Buff” - and enduring debates about how, and who, views and engages with art. The series hopes to re-connect communities with the artworks on their doorsteps, inspiring curiosity and creativity in those that stumble across us. This work has been supported by Creative Folkestone and Arts Council England.
